Stainless Steel 316 and 316L welded tubing is an austenitic alloy containing mostly iron, 16–18% chromium, 10–14% nickel, and 2–3% molybdenum. The 316L version has less carbon content (≤ 0.03%) for improved weldability and reduced precipitation of carbides. The composition supports a tensile strength of around 485 MPa, yield strength of about 170 MPa, and elongation of up to 40%. Molybdenum addition improves greatly the resistance against pitting and crevice corrosion, especially in chloride‑rich and marine environments. High ductility, formability, and oxidation resistance make 316/316L tubing acceptable for high‑temperature and high‑pressure service.
