SS 446 Tubing is composed of 23–27% chromium and trace amounts of nickel, with up to 0.20% carbon. It has silicon and molybdenum for corrosion resistance. It has a ferritic structure, giving good mechanical properties at high temperatures. It possesses a tensile strength of 485 MPa and yield strength of approximately 275 MPa. SS 446 is resistant to corrosion from sulfur and combustion gases and is thus suitable for high-temperature application. The alloy is strong and resistant to the formation of scale at temperatures up to 1100°C, providing longer life in thermal cycling and severe oxidizing environments.
